Metaphors and similes

A.      Simile :
Definition : A simile is a comparison of two unlike  things using the words like or as.
-          The island is like a star from the sky
-          The lake is as smooth as a glass
-          He sings like a blue bird
B.      Metaphor :
  Definition : A metaphor states that one thing is something else. It is a comparison, but it does NOT use like or as to make the comparison.

-          The leaves are a blanket covering the ground
-          The lake is a mirror of beauty.
